I bought Yugandhar way back in when it first came in Hindi edition. I knew it would demand a lot of time given its odd pages and a very small font. However, Krishna as a subject has always interested me, so I knew I would sit and read it. However, it took me good 15 years to do that. Maybe this was the right time to read this book. I had visited Dwarka earlier this year and that kind of made me curious about how it would have been described it in our scriptures.

But each time I read it, I get a totally new meaning from the same lines n words which I have read twice before. But still when I take it in my hands, I automatically get eager to read it once again, to know whether there is some more of the Krishna which I have not yet understood even after reading so many times He Preached so many examples n teachings by first following it himself, the importance of Mother, Friend, Lover, Husband, Brother, King, each n every role played by a human being in his life.

This book gives us a different perspective to look at the life of Krishna.. He considered all living beings as his own beloved.
The reasons wh Yet another masterpiece by Shivaji Sawant.. The reasons why Krishna loved Arjun and Uddhav more are fascinating. The novel gets a bit slow in between but all in all its worth everything! Great book on Shri Krishna! Aug 12, Parag added it. Complete life of Shri Krushna written by impeccable hands of Shri. Shiwaji Sawant. Sep 02, Seema rated it it was amazing.
I felt like believing every word in this book. I am going to reread it soon. Apr 16, Ankita rated it it was amazing Shelves: hindi. A beautiful book, Yugandhar depicts the life of Sri Krishna through the various phases in his life. The book is split into chapters, each chapter being narrated by important individuals in his life, in first person. This gives different perspectives, since the range of people includes his beloved wife Rukmini and his saarthi charioteer Daruk.

Apart from giving a fairly detailed account of his life, it also had a surprisingly calming effect, and left my feeling rather peaceful even after reading as little as two pages. Highly recommended to anyone who can read Hindi. Dec 20, Ananya Vetaal rated it it was amazing. Yugandhar- is a brilliant piece of work from Shivaji Sawant. Author tries hard to contain the protagonist within human sphere but also surrenders to the divinity at appropriate places.
Immense detailing takes the reader into that era. It is a long long piece of text but something worth having and passing onto generations. Feb 10, Sudhir Tingare rated it it was amazing. Mar 01, Sarvesh rated it really liked it. Stunned by Marathi literature. The layers, the depth, the characters. A book which is NOT a page turner. Quite the opposite,You savour it, taking in all that is laid out for you with a painstaking deliberateness.
Being an atheist, I found this book extremely enjoyable and was absolutely delighted when the author proclaimed that all the characters are too be viewed as fallible, human rather than the gods they are.
Must read for All and especially Maharashtrians. Jul 27, Vaibhav Sharma rated it it was amazing. Can't find any words to review this book. This book has somewhat changed my thinking about Indian religion and Gods.
Even the Gods have to obey all the natural laws when they come to this planet as an Avatar. Even they have to face good times and tough times just as we do. So why should we complain.? All we can do is to keep doing our Karma and leave the result on the almighty. After reading this book I feel so blessed to know how to read Hindi. Apr 05, Suyash rated it it was amazing. It gives a different perespective to see our own life in different way.

This makes it very interesting to read on. Sep 09, Purushottam barnala rated it really liked it Shelves: hindi-sahitya. Partly fictionalized and partly puranic description of hindu godhead Shrikrishna, who continues to inspire generations of Indians through these centuries in the realm of morality, ethics and so on. There s a division of chapters based on first person narrative which includes shri krishna himself, draupadi, satyaki, arjun, uddhav etc. All of them in a way try to eulogise him and epitomize his glory and his contributions which are manifold.

The fascinating element in it is that it tried to portray a humanised form of krishna which might be relevant for the readers in 21st century, but this altogether didnt scrapped the mythical elements attached to him in due course of time after his departure from earth.
But it is in a way necessary as it makes the hidden messages palpable in a layman language in the form of allegories the puranic form of writing.
Worth reading if you have patience. Many a times writer has repeatedly told same things, so you may get irritated. It should have been avoided. Personally I liked this book.
