The book includes the life story of Shri Narasimha Saraswati, his philosophy and related stories. Some people regard the book to be historically important as it depicts stories or events which took place around the 14th Century. The language is th century Marathi. Shri Saraswati Gangadhar used only Sanskrit words. The Guru Charitra Book consists of 52 chapters and is divided into 3 parts 1. Gnankand Knowledge Part , 2. Karmakand Work Part and 3.
Bhaktikand Devotion Part. The Guru Charitra Book is considered a Mantra by itself, and followers read it following strict rules. These rules are given in the book itself. The book is to be read either in 7 days called Saptaha or in 3 days.
For 7 days Chapters should be read. For 3 days Chapters should be read. Before starting to read, take clean bath. Clear and clean the area where you will sit to read this.
While reading do not Talk. No sex and no eating of Onion, Garlic, egg and non-vegetarian items for the period of Saptaha 7 or 3 days. Sleep on the floor during this period of reading. After the end of Saptaha, pooja of the book to be performed and one couple should be called and given food and dakshina. Chapters and are NOT to be left half read. They should be completed always. This is written by Sri Saraswati Gangadhar. It has arisen from the conversation between Guru Siddha and disciple Namadharak. In the late nineteenth century, Paramhans Parivrajakacharya Shreemad Vasudevanand Saraswati Swami Maharaj, a famous saint of the Dattatreya tradition, translated the work in Sanskrit verses of equal number. Several miraculous deeds are associated with these two Gurus — 5 such deeds are relating to Shripad Shri Vallabh chapters 5 to 10 and 26 are relating to Shri Narasinha Saraswati, chapters 11 to 51 besides many mythological pouranik tales have also been narrated in this volume by way of illustration.
